Week 2 saw another week of very close games in girls softball, while baseball kicked off the season with a bang!

In 26-5A, Judson pulled off a big 7th inning, scoring 5 runs and pulling away with a 12-8 victory. Madison took a 5-0 lead in the 1st as they went on to beat Lee 9-0. Reagan ran away with the game in the 4th scoring nine runs as they pulled out the “W” against MacArthur. Reagan’s record is now 4-1.

Taft held off Stevens 7-1, keeping Taft undefeated. Holmes took care of Jay with some help from their pitcher Melanie Menchaca, who had 10 strikeouts, 3 for 3 batting, and had 2 RBI’s.

Marshall and Warren went into extra innings, as Marshall came up with the 2-1 win. Marshall rode the arm of Brie Sanchez who had career high 22 strikeouts in the game. Both teams scores came in the final 12th inning.

Stockdale and Wagner both came up with victories, beating Keystone and Incarnate Word. Holy Cross pulled off the victory with a one run win over South San 7-6. Meagan Munoz was 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI for Holy Cross.

Pasty Ojeda pitched a no hitter and collected 14 strikeouts as Southside beat West Campus. Cornerstone came out fighting early as the beat Sam Houston 14-1. Brackenridge ran away with the game in the 4th, as they went on to beat McCollum 11-5. Jasmine Goodwyn from McCollum hit a solo homerun - her second this season.

Devine beat Pleasanton 2-1, as they improved their record to 6-1. Amanda Nordberg pitched a one hitter for Clark as they beat Clemens 11-0. Alamo Heights, Dilley, and NB Canyon all came away with big wins. Canyon is still undefeated at 7-0.

Memorial beat Lanier by 1, 21-20. Steele and Highlands both came up with the “W” in their games, Highlands is still 6-0.

Marion’s Sara Basha had a double and two RBI’s as they went on to beat Seguin 4-1. Burbank pulled a come from behind victory over Uvalde 6-5. Nina Garcia from Burbank collected 11 strikeouts in the game.

Once again it’s tournament weekend this week look for the complete wrap up of this weekends games on Monday.

Jay’s Joseph Gutierrez stuck out 14 for the Mustangs as they beat St. Anthony 14-0. Southside lost a nail biter as they stranded 14 base runners against Jefferson, losing 5-4. La Vernia, Wimberley, Eagle Pass, Floresville, Poteet, and South San all came away with their first win of the season.

Taft took an extra inning to beat Southwest 5-3. Highlands went on to beat Brackenridge in the 8th inning, scoring the game-winning run with two outs.  Burbank pulled away by one to beat Stevens, 7-6. Smithson Valley and MacArthur had a great pitching duel as Smithson Valley struck out a combined 13 batters while MacArthur struck out a combined 11 batters.

Baseball starts their tournament weekend as well, so look for all the updates on scores and don’t forget to check next week for all the news over the weekend.
