SAsports.com has been promoting the positive publicity of high school student athletes and activities since 2001, and this school year we have a fantastic and fun way to have a great time, while raising money for your organization.
It’s called SAsports.com High School Idol, and here’s how it works. First, we pick two days – one for the audition day held after school one week before the contest, and another for the SAsports.com High School Idol competition, held in either the school’s auditorium or gym. Ideally it should be held on a Monday or Thursday. The reason: Tuesday and Friday is usually athletic competition day; Wednesday is youth group day at many churches.
Once an audition date is selected, we publicize the contest at the school level, primarily through the school announcements and school newspaper. SAsports.com will be at the singing auditions, and will choose the 8-10 finalists. The contestants can audition acapella (without music), or with music they furnish. If they need music, SAsports.com will try to provide that between the audition and the contest date if at all possible.
Fast-forward to contest day. SAsports.com will provide the sound system, emcee, DJ, and ballot takers; all we need from your organization is someone to take the money at the door. We recommend charging $5 per person. Since the winners will be determined by audience vote, all of the contestants will do their best to pack the venue with family and friends. At the end of the evening, SAsports.com only takes 20 percent of the door, leaving a whopping 80% profit for your organization. You can even sell t-shirts and food to raise more money; SAsports.com will only take 20% of the door, nothing more.
We award prizes and trophies to the top three contestants, and we pay for that as well. All in all, it’s a great way to raise money with very little effort, and a fun time had by all.
We have 10 schools extremely interested in SAsports.com High School Idol, and I have a feeling that dates will go fast. E-mail us back: jaytope@sasports.com as soon as possible. A portion of the proceeds from SAsports.com High School Idol will go to our Student Writer Scholarship fund.
