We had such a great time Saturday at our first-ever Eagle Pass High School Tour Stop. The occasion was a crucial district volleyball match between the Lady Eagles and the Laredo United Longhorns.
The crowd was intense on both sides; some of the loudest were the Eagle Pass HS football players, many of them still celebrating their win over Uvalde the night before.
The Lady Eagles led 23-21 in the first set, only to fall 25-23 to the Longhorns. And the excitement continued from there, as the match went the full five sets. With Eagle Pass trailing 7-3 in the fifth, they gathered themselves for a 15-10 win. The victory puts the Lady Eagles in the 29-5A lead at 3-0.
Afterwards, we all went over to the Eagle Pass Whataburger for an After-Party, and to give away 'Whataburger for a Year' to one lucky fan. The only stipulation to register was that you had to wear Eagle Pass HS spiritwear or colors to register.
The winner was Jackie Byrne, and she joins Holmes High School alumnus Vincent Lee as our 2010 winners of 'Whataburger for a Year'.
The food was great, and we loved meeting the coaches, parents, students, and fans of the Eagle Pass High School Eagles. We could not have had a better time, and the hospitality was incredible. I'd like to thank everyone involved for making this happen; Lynette Gamez, the assistant coach at Eagle Pass; Coach Graf for letting us do this; Danell and Jorge from Whataburger for their support; Monica, the store manager at the Eagle Pass Whataburger - who despite the crowd had everyone happy and smiling; and above all, the Eagle Pass community for welcoming SAsports.com with welcome arms. I promise: we WILL be back soon!
Also, a big shout-out to Jacob, who will be our new Eagle Pass High School student writer on our SAsports.com EPHS page; we look forward to hearing from him soon!
