After suffering from a bi-week last week, everything at school is back to normal. Well, aside from the Homecoming campaigning frenzy that over took the Reservation. The student body seemed to be consumed by a sugar rush, as candy, cupcakes, and even pizza was given out as voting incentives. Colorful "vote for..." signs, along with flashy "vote for...” shirts, were worn amidst the crowds. The Homecoming chaos dwindled slightly –more like temporarily- to shift back to the well-missed Friday Night Football excitement.
The Indians traveled to Boerne, where they took on the Boerne Champion Chargers. However, the Indians fell short with a 57-22 loss. Seniors, Zachary Urdiales and Jake Cardenas, put points on the scoreboard for Harlandale. Friday's loss set the Indians with a 0-3 district record and a long drive back home. With only 3 more games left (Kerrville Tivy, Uvalde, and McCollum) in the season, we're all anxious to see what will be in store for the Indians.
While a bi-week put football on pause, it did not hinder the volleyball team's season! During the bi-week, the Lady Indians defeated rivals McCollum Cowgirls, for the second time, in four matches (25-4, 25-14, 20-25, 25-16). They also defeated Lockhart, a non-district game, in three matches (25-18, 25-15, 25-21). This past week, the Lady Indians were on the road. First stop: Uvalde. Harlandale was victorious against the Uvalde Lobos (25-21, 25-21, 25-15) and continued on their way to their next opponent. The road-trip to Boerne (where SaSports’ very own Jay Tope would serve as the announcer) was full of anticipation. But unlike Uvalde’s triumphant outcome, Boerne was a different story. The Chargers put an end to the Indians' winning streak (22-25, 11-25, 17-25), thus securing their District Championship title. The loss devastated the Indians as their weakened defense let Boerne take charge. "They came to play and we didn't. But we need to pick-up our heads because our season isn't over," said Head Coach Sylvia Cardenas. The Lady Indians boarded the bus with a district record of 7-2.
Thanks to all the Harlandale students and faculty that participated in the blood drive on October 13th. Harlandale (182 students registered) donated 167 units of blood —WAY TO GO INDIANS!! Also, the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign is underway do not forget to make donations to the Athletic Organizations. Thank you for making a difference Indians!
Come and cheer on the football team, Oct 21, at Memorial Stadium against Kerrville Tivy. Also, the volleyball team has home games this week against the Brennan Bears (Oct 18) and the Kerrville Tivy Antlers (Oct 21).
