School is off to an exciting start at Lee High School. The halls are buzzing with school spirit and the pep rallies are thunderous with cheers of “Big Red!” This year is going to be different- ask any of the fall athletes. Lee is faster, stronger and ready to take on whoever comes our way.
Marshall witnessed first-hand the determination and hustle our boys bring to the field. The fans were loud and proud of the 24-21 victory in overtime. Matthew McCracken was even selected as the WOAI play of the week for his kick-off return touchdown.
On September 3 the Lee boys gave the crowd, all 2,289 of them, their money’s worth with another nail-biter victory; this time over Southwest 28-21. Lee’s defense held Southwest to only 170 yards. With 20 seconds remaining Rangel threw the final touchdown pass to McCracken and the crowd exploded.
Volleyball has been working hard for several months now. The team started the season ranked third in the district and proved themselves by sweeping Roosevelt in a great three-game win. More excited than ever, the Lady Vols have one goal this season: playoffs.
The Lee tennis team was on fire last week, winning a tournament for the first time in ten years. It is evident that they will do great things this year, and hopefully get themselves into the playoffs.
Our cross-country guys and girls are also off to a promising start. Last year our very own Alex Ntagawa was selected for the super team, and he, along with the rest of the team, will surely make Lee proud once again.
Good luck to all the teams in their upcoming games. There is nothing stronger than the heart of a Volunteer.
