Hey Buffalo Fans!

Prince and Princess: Chris VanPelt Me and Jamie
and Macie Verstuyft
This past week was our Homecoming. Our student council did a good job decorating the school and gym, hanging up signs, and organizing fun activities to keep the spirit alive. We had a “Back To The Future” theme. Monday-50’s Day. Tuesday-60’s Day. Wednesday-70’s Day. Thursday-80’s Day. Friday-Nostalgic Day. It was exciting to see what people would come to school wearing! Games were played everyday during the week at lunch such as, Tug-o-War, Hula-Hoop, Twister, and Limbo. There were many prizes given out to the winners at our Pep-Rally on Friday. The Pep-Rally was quite exciting…considering our school has a lack of spirit, but when it comes to a time like Homecoming, some get really pumped up! Faculty members were chosen throughout the day on Friday, by given bracelets, to participate in the game planned for them at the Pep-Rally! The faculty had to do the twist, “without breaking a hip,” for a certain amount of time and the winner was chosen by applause. I really got a good laugh out of this one! It was interesting to see just how many moves they still had! Then the Homecoming Court candidates had to do the limbo until someone won. The bar ended up getting extremely low! It took a while, even though there were only nine seniors participating. I had no idea I could get bent so much! I was feeling it the next day! I managed to get 3rd! It was a laugh!

King and Queen: Trevor Camp and Jamie Killough
The Kings Court consisted of Chris VanPelt, Trevor Camp, Kyle Darden, Victor Rios, and Chase Hathorn. The Queens court consisted of Kelli Rhodes, Jamie Killough, Haylie Treme, and Macie Verstuyft {myself}. Chris VanPelt and Macie Verstuyft were voted Prince and Princess and Trevor Camp and Jamie Killough were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. All of the girls looked beautiful in their dresses and the boys…well, hot and sweaty from playing basketball…with the exception of Chris and Vic who do not play basketball! Congratulations everyone!

Because our school does not have football, we have our Homecoming during basketball season. Utopia played the Leakey Eagles.

The girls began at 6:00, followed by the boys at 7:30. The girls sadly fell short of winning, but played very hard the entire game! On the other hand, the boys put up a big fight! Chase Hathorn and Trevor Camp both had 20 points, followed by Bruce Killough and Brady Burns with 10 points, and Patrick Killough with 5 points. Good job to Trevor who was 10 for 10 from the free throw line. Right there, on the free throw line, can make a winning team or a loosing one! The boys played an awesome game and did a good job breaking their opponents press. There were times when I was clinching my teeth in the stands when the referee would call something completely off, or the boys would turn over the ball, because it was such a close game all the way to the buzzer. The Runnin’ Buffs came out on top with a win of 65-56. Way to go Buffs!

The last district game will be played on Tuesday, February 5th against Knippa. The girls will start at 6:00 and the boys shortly after. Sadly, the girls do not have a spot in the playoffs, but if the boys win on Tuesday, they will automatically place 3rd and enter the playoffs later in the month. If they turn up short, then there will have to be a playoff game between Utopia and Leakey at a neutral spot on Friday. Good Luck Boys!
- until next time. Have a great week and weekend!
