D.J. Macleay had a pretty good game in the first quarter.

Macleay had 12 points, two assists, and numerous rebounds in the first quarter of Reagan’s 70-50 victory over the Roosevelt Rough Riders Saturday afternoon at Littleton Gymnasium.  Macleay finished with a game-high 24 points.

Roosevelt actually led 10-7 in the first quarter, and was within four points at 27-23 with three minutes left in the half.  Reagan scored the game’s next nine points, beginning a 15-1 run that continued into the second half.  The Rattlers were in control from that point forward.

Roosevelt stayed close early with the help of three-pointers from Bo Serros and Steven Marshall.  After that, the Rough Riders went cold from the arch, hitting only two more treys the rest of the game, both by Serros.

Reagan, on the other hand, was able to exploit a strong height advantage.  Four of Reagan’s starters (Macleay at 6’6, Jack Johnson at 6’6, Connor Knight at 6’5, and Bryan Hardy at 6’4) were taller than Roosevelt’s tallest players (starter Christopher Waddle and backup Jonathan Taylor are both 6’3.)  All four of Reagan’s tallest players scored in double figures.  Hardy, befitting a wing player, got nine of his points on three-pointers.

The win allowed Reagan (17-5, 4-2 in 26-5A) to maintain a share of the second place in 26-5A; they are tied with Johnson now the first round of district play is completed.  Reagan has won three straight since their upset loss to MacArthur.

Roosevelt (9-17, 3-3 in 26-5A) is in fourth place, one game ahead of MacArthur.  The Rough Riders have lost four straight since starting district play 3-0; one of their losses was a non-district game against San Antonio Christian.
